Window Tint Aftercare: How to Care for Your New Tint
Just got your windows tinted? Follow these aftercare steps to ensure your tint cures properly and lasts a lifetime.

You just picked up your vehicle with fresh window tint — now what? Proper aftercare during the first few weeks ensures your tint bonds correctly and looks its best for years to come. Here is everything you need to know.
The Curing Period (Days 1-5)
Do not roll down your windows for at least 3 to 5 days after installation. The film adhesive needs this time to fully bond to the glass. Rolling the windows down too early can shift the film or create peeling along the top edge.
You may see small water bubbles or a hazy appearance. This is completely normal and expected. During installation, a water-based solution is used to position the film. Tiny pockets of moisture may be visible as the film cures. These will evaporate and disappear within 2 to 4 weeks. Do not try to push bubbles out with your fingers — they will resolve on their own.
Avoid car washes for the first 48 hours. Water from power washers can seep under the film edges before the adhesive fully sets.
Cleaning Your Tinted Windows
After the curing period, clean your tinted windows with:
Use: Soft microfiber cloth or paper towel with ammonia-free glass cleaner. Brands like Invisible Glass, Sprayway, or any cleaner labeled ammonia-free work well.
Avoid: Windex, ammonia-based cleaners, abrasive pads, razor blades, or scraping tools. Ammonia degrades the film adhesive over time and can cause discoloration.
Technique: Spray the cleaner onto the cloth rather than directly onto the window. This prevents excess liquid from running into the window seals and under the film edge.
Long-Term Care Tips
Seat belts: When you unbuckle, the metal clasp can swing and scratch the rear side window tint. Try to catch it rather than letting it fly.
Pets: Dog claws can scratch window tint. If your dog rides in the back seat, consider a window protector or keep them in the center.
Stickers and suction cups: Remove any suction-cup phone holders or stickers from tinted glass carefully. Pulling too hard can lift the tint.
Garage parking: While not required, keeping your vehicle in a garage extends the life of any window tint by reducing UV and heat exposure when parked.
What About the Exterior?
Window tint is applied to the inside of the glass, so the exterior does not require any special care. You can wash, wax, and detail your vehicle normally.
